is starch diet the same as high carb low fat? I've lost 20 pounds from carbing up! I never had those results on nasty Atkins.

I followed the starch solution for 6 months (mid Jan to mid July 2016). I loved the food (cooked starches, veggies, beans, no oil, and no nuts n seeds). But I didn't lose weight on it. In fact I gained weight, I was tired and hungry most of the time, and bloated with lots of gas. I found out I'm insulin resistant so I stopped this diet and cut out all the starches.

I feel much better an lighter now on HFLC (high fat, not high protein)! I think HCLF just doesn't work for everybody.

I love starches… they just don't love me back.

I have been doing this program for the past 5 months, and within the first 2 months I gained 15 pounds, and then hit a plateau where I could eat as much as I wanted with no weight gain/loss. I'm unsure if the weight gain was a response to my 6 years of calorie restriction/yoyo dieting but recently I lost track of what was important and wanted to drop the weight and began eating only 1200 calories each day, while burning up to 700 cal exercising. I know this wasn't healthy. The crazy thing was I didn't drop one pound! I gained 5 pounds doing this…. so now I'm pushing my calories back up.. The crazy things we do for weight loss… I need to stick to it this time! Could anyone explain how I gained in a calorie deficit? Was it just too big? Was I holding water? Just curious as thermodynamics would say otherwise.

What about someone who has hypothyroid and took themselves off armour thyroid due to being very sick from it? Would you call them a liar if they were 100% on diet and not losing?

Love Dr McDougall's concept, just made so much sense. I always got sick from any animal protein's. I use soya milk due to lactose intolerance and eat nothing which contains gluten. I use a bit of raw organic virgin coconut oil which has brought tremendous positive changes in my body… my digestive track, skin, hair and nails!! I have been eating all starch since 29 March 2016 and lost 12 pounds. This is a lifestyle a eating plan and I'm sticking to it! My energy levels increased, my metabolism is faster and I'm never hungry :)

I am one of those that have been a fat vegan for 5 years. I do like to eat but I didn't start to lose weight until I went SOS free – which is no salt, oil and sugar. That made all the difference in the world. Now I'm finally losing weight – slowly -but steadily. I wasn't eating oil before – but I like low salt/low fat hummus – which an be fattening – and low salt rice crackers – which are processed. The more I steer toward non-processed fat free/no salt/no sugar – the easier it is to lose. So Dr. McDougall – my cynical guru – you could tell them that!

I have to say i love the starch solution and i love Dr McDougall. But i am one of the people who have been following the program TO THE LETTER and i initially lost 6 lbs the first week and not another pound since. He advises in his book for people that have a hard time losing, to reduce the starch and add more vegetables. In other words reducing the starch will help you lose? At that point it would no longer be a "starch based diet" i enjoy eating starches, i love the plan but im just not losing the weight. I don't think all plans work for everyone, everyone is different. I hate it though because potatoes are my favorite food. I'm very depressed at this point 😢

I am asking for help anyone that can help , i don't need to be called a liar because i am not, i need help understanding what to do to get this weight off me. i was 415 lbs and now 300lbs that was 3 yr ago and can't lose anymore. i think my weight can be because of hormones due to PCOS i was told to stop eating fruit because that could be what is holding on my weight.so i did. i was told to stop eating any and all oil/fat because fat is making me fat so did. This is what i eat most days. 1 cup of rice, 2 carrots, 2 stalks of clary, 1/4 of an onion, 1 can of beans about a cup of mixed greens. i either eat it like that or i roll the mix up in rice wraps. and that makes about 12. I will eat 6 and then a few hours later i eat 6 more. with ketchup. then in the evening i make a pot of soup. 1/4 head of cabbage, one onion, 6 carrots, 4 stalks of clary, a box of rice noodles, a can of beans. most of my food is organic, I can't eat meat, anything spicy, red and bell peppers, soy, nuts, seeds, peas, gluten, oat meal, sunflower/safflower oil so no chips this is because either allergies or it upsets my stomach. i do not cheat i have no need for that. i am sick of being sick and i stopped eating any and all food that makes me sick. so i am not tempted to eat fast food or things i shouldn't. I can't exercise much do to painful polyneuropathy. I am not diabetic I eat healthier than anyone I know. so if anyone can help me please massage me. i really need help i am really tired carrying this weight on me. my doctor told me well it looks like your doing all you can do so it looks like your just going to have to deal with being fat the rest of your life. NO way in hall is that going to happen. I have been fat my whole life since i was 6 and i am 45 now. i have been fighting that long to keep it off and all i got was bigger. but for when i started eating this way. this is the first time i am not gaining weight. when i got to 415 lbs and everything i was doing to lose weight was making me gain. i really thought i was going to get so big i was going die and they would have to cut me out of my house because i would be too fat to fit out the door. i just know i can lose this weight i am sure i am just need a little more help.

Okay, I believe that health is around the corner when we eat predominantly plant-based / starch. However, there is the problem of natural fat and the push in the hclf community to limit fat intake to a small percent of one's daily intake. My brain fights to put weight back on and keep it on every time my weight falls while I'm eating plant-based. No matter how much I eat, at some point, my body / brain rebels and until I eat a high-fat meal and put the weight back on, the ghrelin levels remain ridiculously high in my stomach. Can anyone recommend a natural appetite suppressant besides exercise, which is only effective to a certain point?? My insatiable cravings are the "only" thing coming between me and my plant-based lifestyle and weight loss goal. "Only" being the heavy operational word. My frustration levels are peaked and I grow discouraged by the day as I try to understand what my body wants, needs and won't allow. Carbs are making me nauseated lately. I can eat a bowl of orange slices or a bowl of potatoes and the spike makes me dizzy and nauseated. Diabetes runs in my family and my sister suggested that those were symptoms of pre-diabetes. Any ideas would be helpful.

People who claim they follow the diet and don't lose e weight are either lying or haven't accounted for their diets properly. Keep a food diary or use a calorie tracker and we will see the truth.
